Ruby in Zoisite

This beautiful polished Ruby in Zoisite stone measuring 2–3 cm impresses with its expressive combination of deep green tones, contrasting dark inclusions and characteristic ruby accents in purple-red shades. This is an extremely interesting natural mineral that combines the energy of two different stones – ruby and zoisite – and makes it sought after by both collectors and lovers of minerals with a special radiance.

The polished shape emphasizes the natural beauty of the stone and makes it suitable for collection, gift, decoration or personal energy use.

Ruby in Zoisite is a relatively rare and impressive natural combination discovered in Tanzania in the 20th century. It is there that some of the most famous samples of this mineral were found, in which ruby crystals are naturally embedded in the green mass of zoisite. This combination creates an extremely attractive contrast and makes each stone unique.

Ruby has been a symbol of vitality, passion and power for centuries, while zoisite is associated with growth, harmony and inner renewal. The combination of the two minerals makes ruby in zoisite a stone with particularly strong symbolism and presence.

According to crystal traditions, ruby in zoisite is associated with:

stimulating vital energy and motivation

emotional balance and inner harmony

supporting personal growth and transformation

activating heart energy

promoting courage, confidence and a positive attitude

combining passion and action with patience and awareness

This stone is believed to help a person combine the strength of the heart with peace of mind and direct their energy in a constructive direction.

Ruby Zoizite

Ruby Zoizite

Ruby-zoisite is the natural combination of both ruby and zoisite crystals in a single specimen. It is also known as 'anyolite', a name derived from the Masai word for 'green' (anyoli). Other name variations include "ruby-in-zoisite" and "Tanganyika artstone". Ruby-zoisite was discovered at the Longido mining district in northeast Tanzania by Tom Blevins, an English prospector. To this day, Tanzania remains the only source for ruby-zoisite. Blevins had initially thought that he had found vast ruby deposits in 1949, but it later turned out to be a green zoisite matrix with large inclusions of mostly opaque ruby. Ruby-zoisite is also heavily included with black hornblende minerals. Depending on its primary constituents, ruby-in-zoisite can vary tremendously in color, pattern and hardness. Zoisite provides an earthy green color, while ruby inclusions give it pink and red highlights. Zoisite's hardness ranges from 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, whereas ruby has a hardness of 9. Although ruby-zoisite is not fine ruby, it eventually found a purpose in carvings and cabochons. Today, it is one of the most colorful ornamental gemstones available, and the abundance of gemstone material makes it very affordable even in larger sizes.

Useful tips

Quality gemstones can withstand various adverse effects, but they require certain care in order to preserve their beauty and glitter. To enjoy them for a long time, observe the following rules:

How to clean minerals and jewels with gemstones:

  1. You need a bowl of warm water and a few drops of dish detergent, use a toothbrush with soft bristles and carefully clean the jewel, then rinse with water and dry it.
  2. Organic minerals, such as Amber, Pearls, Coral..., clean only with warm water and a soft cotton cloth. Never use detergents which contain ammonia or acetic acid to clean jewels made completely of metal.
  3. Protect the stones on your jewels from blows or pressure on other objects because even they are very hard, the stones can crack or a piece can break off them.
  4. Do not allow the jewels with gemstones to have contact with each other due to risk of scratching.
  5. Always put the pearls on after you apply cosmetic products because they can contain ingredients which dim the glitter
  6. Never use toothpaste to clean jewels or gemstones, the abrasives it contains will easily scratch the metal and the softer stones, such as malachite, turquoise, amber...
