Moldavite is a rare natural phenomenon – a tektite, formed by a giant meteorite impact about 15 million years ago in Central Europe. Upon impact, the earth’s matter melted and flew high into the atmosphere, then cooled instantly and solidified in the air, creating the unique green fragments that we find today mainly in the historical region of Bohemia and around the Vltava River – hence the name moldavite. This is why it is called a “starstone” – earthly, but born from a cosmic event.

Moldavite was formed about 20 million years ago by meteor showers crashing to Earth. The impact of the meteorites caused the existing rock material in the Earth to melt and fuse with the meteor, creating a new gemstone made of both extraterrestrial and terrestrial material.
