The name kyanite comes from the Greek kyanos - "blue", and it is no coincidence: this mineral is valued precisely for its characteristic deep blue range. In nature, kyanite is formed under high pressure in metamorphic rocks - that is why geologists use it as a "marker" for the conditions under which mountain belts were formed. An interesting fact is that kyanite has different hardness in different directions – a rare property that makes it a real “challenge” for master cutters and even more valuable as a stone in jewelry.
