Amethyst
Amethyst is one of the most prized gemstones of the quartz group. It is the preferred gemstone of high-ranking Christian clergy. A legend associated with this stone states that it evokes love for the person who gives it as a gift. Amethyst is believed to be one of the stones with the strongest healing properties. It strengthens the immune and nervous systems, brings peace of mind, helps with headaches and migraines. Placed under the pillow, cures insomnia. Ancient Greek myths associate Dionysus, the god of wine, with a maiden named Amethyst. The god liked the girl, but she did not respond to his desire. Her prayers to remain chaste were heard by the goddess Artemis, who turned Amethyst into a white stone. Ashamed, Dionysus, as a sign of remorse, poured wine on the stone as a gift, thus turning it purple.
It was a traditional belief that amethyst prevented drunkenness, and in ancient Rome and Greece, amethyst cups were made with the belief that a person would hardly get drunk from such a cup.
